The suspension has run its course.

I don't know how much time I'll be spending here from now on. This place seems to have deteriorated rather badly, and having some time off gave me some good objective perspective on how much energy I should put into being here.

That being said, thanks for the kind words from those who noticed I was AWOL.

Hundreds of years later, in the late Devouring Period, the fish became obnoxious. Trailerbites, Chickerbites, and Mosqwitoes collided aimlessly in the dense gas. Finally, tiny edible plants sprang up in rows - giving birth to generations of insecticides and other small, dying creatures.

Millions of months passed and, 28 days later, the moon appeared. This small change was reflected best, perhaps, in the sand dollar, which shrank to almost nothing in the bottom of the pool. Where even dumb amphibians like catfish laid their eggs in the boiling waters, only to be gobbled up every 3 minutes by the giant sea orphans (which scared everybody).

And so, in fear and hot water, man is born:

So now, everywhere he went, man dropped a great load of knowledge - forming a rich compost where slumbered the modifying spark of humanity."

Nordic, I noticed your suspension and I didn't like it. Your comment may have been mean but at this point is justified or close to it. The material that finally set you off is crazy, whether or not the poster is, or whatever his motivations in posting it.

I noticed your absence too, Nordic, and felt bad that the Hollywood Scripting thread theatrics by one zany zealot drove you to being banned for your blast of objections. I was with you balancing in tandem and in trepidation on the line we both crossed, and I’m glad you’re back. The more sanity in the mix the merrier the mayhem of misfits, but you’re also right in retrospect, putting the place in proper perspective.

The mods and I have come to the decision that Hugh's current suspension become a permanent ban.

It doesn't give me any pleasure to announce this, but there finally comes a point.

Well! I should visit the lounge more often. I lift my cup to toast some of our dearly departed, but certainly not for those who've been banned, at least the few I'm familiar with. Except for Hugh. I'll toast him. He is unique.

Having just read the short Hugh/Nordic suspension thread, I have to agree with Jack. Nordic's suspension was not warranted. (A little over-reactive, Bruce, imo.)

Hugh's being banned is understandable, though I regret it. People's responses to his postings or 'interjections' I feel always seemed more offensive to me than anything of his that I've read, though he too, had his offensive moments.

eyeno was (is?) a troll (No Toast for You!), an instigator and provocateur. Sorry, Saurian Tale. Perhaps you appreciated interacting with him; I didn't. (And I think some of us would like to intelligently discuss possible alternative energy sources.) Who knew? I had though he had been Percy, but he was Vigilant, but were they one and the same?

I called for the Atzmon thread to be locked on p. 24. Too bad it had to play out to its bitter end on p.80. After p.34 I didn't revisit it until it had been locked and was sad to see two of our best writers disappear. I will miss both dearly.

We all need to take a breather from time to time, hopefully they'll both return.
