I always get a kick out of this stuff...what I really want to know is if Meier believes his own BS, and if not what his motivations are. I mean, I can imagine a bunch of reasons why someone'd start a UFO cult, but I'd like to actually know why he did so.

The bug-headed plants (planimals? anipants?) are truly bizarre, though -- he might fool people with the pics of satellites but planimals just aren't attested in the fossil record, period.

Can't view this due to the fact I'm not on broadband, but I'm sure I can expect Ray Harryhausen doing Close Encounters on a micro-budget ...

IMO Meier introduced many of the themes prevalent in modern 'believer' ufology including the space brothers concept and iconic imagery of spacecraft and their inhabitants.

It wouldn't surprise me if he was a willing/unwilling participant in early disinfo/psy-ops involving the shaping and smearing of ufology.

I don't think he can be written off purely as a crank ...

even harryhausen's got this beat

the video's just somebody flipping through a photo album and explaining a bunch of Meier's latest image -- certainly none of these I'd seen elsewhere.

The pictures of spaceships are passable at the resolution you see them at, but then there's just whackiness -- a truly crappy dino pic (MEIER TRAVELS BACK IN TIME TO SEE DINOS!) and a picture of a plant with a bug head (BECAUSE HIGHER INSECT LIFE SPRINGS FROM LOWER PLANT LIFE) -- together with some audience ambiance at the pics.

I'd love to see Jeff's take on Meier at some point, but in the meantime this really is an entertaining clip -- starts off not implausible, goes steadily downhill as the pics get wilder.

That's what I mean. His 'pictures' were always crystal-clear pics of hubcaps and strange lights that always seemed posed and perfect compared to what I would consider pics of 'genuine' ufo's.

I'd also like to see Jeff's take on Meier and Adamski, two proponents of the extraterrestrial hypothesis who have had a lot of influence on ufology today. An influence that could have feasibly been exerted by intelligence agencies.
