Sex, Drugs, Einstein and Elves
Sex, Drugs, Einstein and Elves by Clifford A. Pickover

Just found out about this 2005 novel sprott.physics.wisc.edu/p...-book.html that seems to be about science and trippy 'border' type experiences. I figured it might be of interest to a few of us. Anyone read it yet or know about the author?

Re: pickover
I haven't read the book but I do know about the author. I believe he is a molecular biologist but his interests are quite broad. He likes to write about DMT, I assume the book you mention has a lot to do with that drug. He likes to pose questions that get people thinking in stranger ways than they are used to. You should check out his site at www.realitycarnival.com if you haven't already.

Thanks for the link, I found a long-ish essay there upon which the book is based. sprott.physics.wisc.edu/p...c/dmt.html

I've been intrigued by everything about DMT for a while, it's too bad I can't explore the issue personally with a licensed therapist or something. My drive to understand and experience the universe is no less legitimate than that of the people who happen to be affiliated with a church.

The internet bathtub extraction methods that I've seen seem dirty, unreliable and a bit dangerous.

My drive to understand and experience the universe is no less legitimate than that of the people who happen to be affiliated with a church."

Ditto; After reading Terrence McKenna's mind-stretching books re: his Amazonian psychonaut explorations, I developed a keen interest in following-up with my own searchs. However, it seems the local pharmacies don't stock DMT.

I was especially intrigued with McKenna's theory of alien-symbiosis, ie., humans are encouraged (instructed?) to raise domesticated herds of cattle, which create optimal forage-range conditions for DMT 'shrooms to propogate and grow, which in-turn 'reward' humans by providing them with arcane knowledge and genetic modification/evolution eneabling greater cosmic awareness and heightened sensitivity to transdimensional, alternative 'other' realities -- perhaps akin to modifying and fine-tuning our celestial radio recievers.

BTW: VERY interesting link provided re: Pickover, who pursues thoughts suggested by McKenna: "Right here and now, one quanta away, there is raging a universe of active intelligence that is transhuman, hyperdimensional, and extremely alien... What is driving religious feeling today is a wish for contact with this other universe." The aliens seen while using DMT present themselves "with information that is not drawn from the personal history of the individual."

Fascinating stuff.
Starman

tykes...
In the comments section there's a couple of well-written posts by someone claiming to be a veteran psychonaut who was aquainted with McKenna and knows Dr.Strassman. He's convinced that the 'entities' and other-worldy environments encountered on high DMT doses are entirely self-generated.

He claims that the somewhat autonomous entites that may be percieved never told him anything he didn't already know. He says the beings and the strange environments themselves are very fleeting and liable to disintegrate entirely if your attention focuses strongly on one element or another, kind of like lucid dreaming. Drawing on my memories of visonary psilocybin experiences, I tend to agree with much of what he has to say.

-"However, it seems the local pharmacies don't stock DMT"

No, but in most places salvia divinorum is legal and bought over the counter at headshops. It's the same kind of instant, short-term massive psychedelic trip. I smoked about 30mg of a 20x extraction to check it out last weekend and boy... when they say salvorin-a is one of the strongest known psychoactive compounds, they aren't kidding. You may want to read up on it at erowid.org or one of those places if you aren't familiar with it.
