Neil Young is a great Canadian. My 82-year-old mother called me about this story yesterday because she got so excited. She's now on the side of all us dirty hippies and punk rockers because she hates the Harper government so much.

He's also absolutely right when he says: "our future depends on science. science is the roadmap. science cannot be ignored as inconvenient." But I don't know. Maybe we should privatize education and we can let the fossil fuel industry write the curriculum on global warming.

Even setting aside the concerns of burning another 176 billion barrels of oil, the extraction and refining processes are energy intensive in and of themselves and an environmental disaster. It's dirty, toxic, greedy, short sighted and one of the clearest indicators that the age of cheap fossil fuels is coming to an end. Now we can look forward to the age of fossil fuels at any cost due in no small part to the concerted propaganda campaign of the fossil fuel industry. It's unproven that cigarettes cause lung cancer, don't ya know.

We will dig/pump it out of the ground and burn it. Is there anyone who doubts this?
