As usual I can't be arsed to take my own pictures, so I'll just crib from Wikipedia. This is roughly the view from my house (it's about 150 yards to the left of where this was taken).

no, eye-watering levels of jealousy aside, one finds oneself seething with envy.

No monasteries, but supposedly an ancient stone altar to Ullr somewhere up there. And yes, it's steep. Bring chocolate and good stamina.

The really steep parts are about a half hour from where I live, in Gudvangen by the Nærøyfjord:

^^^^ Truly awesome, Dr. That video was a frightening! Thrilling! So close to doom, he was! But it was cool watching his shadow grow and shrink, reflecting his height from the ground. What a ride!!

NY claims to have mountains, but our highest peak in the Adirondacks is only 5,343 feet high! The Catskills are much older though, but due to erosion its highest peak is now only 4180'. The Catskills formed some 395 to 325 million years ago. The Appalachians, the oldest mountains on Earth, were formed about 480 million years ago. Oddly enough, the Appalachians were once connected at one end to the Little Atlas Range in Morocco and at the other, the Highlands of Scotland. A very long time ago. (The Himalaya's are babies, only 50 million years old.)

I love dramatic panoramas! Thank you for sharing.

^^You're welcome.

Here's a couple more from the Aurland Valley (aka the Valley of Love because people have a tendency to run off into the bushes and do the naughty):

This is a Giant's Kettle called 'Vetlahelvete' (Little Hell), which according to legend is bottomless, and contains the bodies of several of the wives of a crazy guy who used to live in the valley:

Back 1889, Seattle - built at the base of some very steep mountains, suffered a fire that destroyed the entire business district. Instead of clearing the rubble away, the city filled it all in and rebuilt a new city atop the ruins - meandering beneathe the streets today.

When I toured the Seattle Underground, the tour guide mentioned Madame Lou... Madame Lou who? Madame Lou Graham - originally Dorothea Georgine Emile Ohben, whose family was from Germany. She pitched the prospect of pricey prostitution to savvy Seattle city officials - featuring sophisticated women who could discuss any topic with their well heeled clientele. Madame Lou's prostitutes - were practically prepared from pre-pubescence to please the pervs who paid the pimps; and for peforming some blackmail and rituals too.

At the end of the tour, I asked our guide why he failed to mention Mr Drumpf. He and the other guides all looked at each other, as though I shouldn't have asked that question; then pointed out that everyone who hustled in Seattle at that time did so only with Madame Lou's blessing.
