Iam, they look as if they might as easily convey content and discontent, or sorrow and consolation, depending on how they are arranged (and whether there were originally more figures) but which also fits in with the idea of 'the thinker.' I've had a pleasant few days of reading as a result, thanks.

Johfra Bosschart, another major discovery for me. Thanks BPH. (I liked the site too.)

I only recently discovered them, Harvey. They do evoke emotion and I agree with you in that their arrangement can relate an entirely different emotional response. I think they're quite wonderful and I'm surprised they have escaped my attention for so long. I'd love a copy of repros for my bookshelf.

Let me take this moment to compliment you, Harvey, you're a wonderfully talented artist and I wish you great success.

Similar to the Vinča sculptures in a number of ways, these are from just down the road and made at around the same time (a little later by a few hundred years) but still fresh as a daisy. If you saw them in a contemporary gallery one wouldn't assume they were seven thousand years old.

And thanks for the compliment, I'm working on getting better at it, always. Stay tuned...

Harvey, not sure if you came across this site, as I had, while looking for information on The Thinker of Cernavoda. It's a great resource for non-artists like me.

Regarding my thesis on Bocklin, giger etc. Just came across this:

They work magnificently together. I have to admit, I've never seen them together before, seems odd when I think about it. Anyway, my feeble efforts are vanishing by contrast, still, looks quite striking in black and white.

unbelievable - they seem insectoid - wondering if they had magnifying lenses to study. One of Robert Temple's books The Crystal Sun is about advanced optics dating back to ancient civilisations.

And your stuff

the ram/portrait reminded me of this paperback cover from my teenage collection of pulp nonsense.

except obviously how shit it is compared to yours. I'm imagining you unveiling it to the publishing assistant : "Yah, not bad. Just need to get an oak tree in there somewhere"
