Leda and the swan, seriously, one of art history's most consistently bizarrely rendered images.






The first one was a succes de scandale when shown in Munich in 1939, and was purchased by Hitler. I am personally fondest of the scene as painted by Coreggio below it. Though I also like Boucher's version. Because I love Boucher. And I had thought that this was it:



But the Daily Telegraph informs me that this one's also attributed to Boucher. And you know....I guess, if they say so. I don't expect ever to get a chance to see it myself. It's in a private collection, evidently. And unsurprisingly.
