Holy Mother of God. It's all going down. Domino effect I guess.

Great stuff guys. I think the bigwigs have been furiously busy deciding what to do with the situation. To not interfere wouldn't occur to them, I suppose. At least they might offer Mubarak a nice residency.

Meanwhile the BBC ums and ahs about it all, and talks of the Muslim Brotherhood and so on. I was waiting for over a week listening to Aunty Beeb describe the dangerous violence in the streets and nothing else. They are obviously in idling mode, awaiting spin directions. One particularly astute reporter told me that, "the people on the streets seem to be angry with the government," no mention of what they are angry about, or what their demands are, or their actual grievances. Well, once or twice they were saying how a badly faring economy was to blame, and youth unemployment and so on. They might have even once mentioned a relative lack democracy. So plenty of heat but little light shed by the Beeb, as usual. That is what they seem to specialise in these days.

Ah, but then this morning eventually I heard a protester being interviewed clearly laying the blame on Mubarak's fawning support of the war mongering US and Israel, and saying how he must leave the country before the demonstrators will leave the streets.

At last, a little light!

But thanks for the thread guys, there's a lot here, for when I get time to read it!

Nice to see 23 back, too.

But its a very dangerous situation, I do hope Alice is alright. Mubarak don't seem in a rush to leave, does he? I hope calmer voices prevail and he draws back from his threat of "chaos."

Pages & pages ago, Kid seemed to marvel that the protesters stopped to pray. It occurred to me then -- when ever that was -- that the last time a U.S. movement amounted to much, there was quite a bit of prayer involved.

So I've been praying, for the people of North Africa, for freedom, for Alice.

We can't know how this will turn out, and the arguments about will this turn out well and who's behind what -- who can know? The point of all this is that the people of Egypt are militantly stubbornly doing the right thing. I envy them their self-discipline, solidarity, love of neighbor, strength of character. If only my people were this damned GOOD!

Seems like job one in U.S. media coverage of this is to be damned sure us'uns don't understand that what we're seeing is an entire people indulging themselves with lots and lots of heroism. They don't want us getting any ideas.

Pray some more. This ain't a game.

AJ: out of nowhere about sixty animals; horses, camels, donkeys, a sort of pro-M cavalry accompanied by security forces
charged into Tahrir square at full speed, and have broken through and are leading pro-M protestors into the square in
large numbers.

Mazars and Deutsche Bank could have ended this nightmare before it started.
They could still get him out of office.
But instead, they want mass death.
Don’t forget that.

Pro, anti-Mubarak protesters clash in Cairo

Supporters of embattled Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak clashed violently with opposition protesters after marching into an anti-regime rally in Tahrir Square, an AFP correspondent said.

Protesters from both sides threw stones at each other in the divided square, the epicentre of opposition demonstrations now in their ninth day.

An AFP reporter said several people had been injured.

"The pro-Mubarak NDP ( National Democratic Party) and the secret police dressed in plain clothes, they invaded the place to get rid of the revolt," protester Mohammed Zomor, 63, told AFP.

Fighting took place around army tanks deployed around the square, with stones bouncing off the armoured vehicles. Soldiers did not intervene.

Several groups were involved in fist fights, and some were using clubs.

The opposition said in a statement that plain-clothes policemen stormed the square.

"Members of security forces dressed in plain clothes and a number of thugs have stormed Tahrir Square," three opposition groups said in a statement.

AJ: retired army brigadier says Mubarak regime trying to force the army to crack down by way of pro-supporters; says
the command of the army are aware of this and trying to work out how not to be "tricked" into engagement; brigadier call
on AJ to contact the US admin and Obama to come on the air and call for the Mubarak regime to step down the
violence and call back the supporters.

Looks like it's time for the boot of the state. Apparently they are trying to get the word out that women and children should withdraw from the protests.

Al Jazeera mainsite works fine for me.
