The politics of the man behind the TV show "24"

Postby judasdisney » Sat Apr 21, 2007 7:08 pm

From The New Yorker:

Series creator Joel Surnow: "We’ve had all of these torture experts come by recently, and they say, ‘You don’t realize how many people are affected by this. Be careful.’ They say torture doesn’t work. But I don’t believe that..."

"...Surnow’s rightward turn was encouraged by one of his best friends, Cyrus Nowrasteh, a hard-core conservative who, in 2006, wrote and produced “The Path to 9/11,” a controversial ABC miniseries that presented President Clinton as having largely ignored the threat posed by Al Qaeda. (The show was denounced as defamatory by Democrats and by members of the 9/11 Commission; their complaints led ABC to call the program a “dramatization,” not a “documentary.”) Surnow and Nowrasteh met in 1985, when they worked together on “The Equalizer.” Nowrasteh, the son of a deposed adviser to the Shah of Iran, grew up in Madison, Wisconsin, where, like Surnow, he was alienated by the radicalism around him." [italics added by judasdisney]

"...During three decades as a journeyman screenwriter, Surnow grew increasingly conservative. He “hated welfare,” which he saw as government handouts. Liberal courts also angered him. He loved Ronald Reagan’s “strength” and disdained Jimmy Carter’s “belief that people would be nice to us just because we were humane. That never works.” He said of Reagan, “I can hardly think of him without breaking into tears. I just felt Ronald Reagan was the father that this country needed… . He made me feel good that I was in his family.”

"...Surnow said that he found the Clinton years obnoxious. “Hollywood under Clinton—it was like he was their guy,” he said. “He was the yuppie, baby-boomer narcissist that all of Hollywood related to.” During those years, Surnow recalled, he had countless arguments with liberal colleagues, some of whom stopped speaking to him. “My feeling is that the liberals’ ideas are wrong,” he said. “But they think I’m evil.” Last year, he contributed two thousand dollars to the losing campaign of Pennsylvania’s hard-line Republican senator Rick Santorum, because he “liked his position on immigration..."

I mean - thanks for this, judasdisney. Surnow sounds like Archie Bunker with an itchy trigger-finger. The moguls pumping visual product are not exactly egalitarian humanitarians. (I recommend "text only.")

Surnow is big on Rush Limbaugh and cigars. Cigars are frequently used by men to convey a poisoned air of status and self-satisfied impunity, Daddy Warbucks and Arnold.

Image

Surnow, a cigar enthusiast, has converted a room down the hall from his office into a salon with burled-wood humidors and a full bar; his friend Rush Limbaugh, the conservative talk-radio host, sometimes joins him there for a smoke. (Not long ago, Surnow threw Limbaugh a party and presented him with a custom-made “24” smoking jacket.)

'Son of advisor to the Shah of Iran' for a pal? Lots of Iranians fled to LA in '79-'80 and started calling themselves Persians..

Who is the lead character in '24?' Movie coming in 2008.
A CIA agent named Bauer.

Who wrote a book criticizing the US-Saudi oil-for-terror deal?
A CIA agent named Baer.

Close enough to confuse without bringing in hostile search results?
Naw. Must just be a coincidence like...all those others. Y'know, teapots and stuff.

The series, Surnow told me, is “ripped out of the Zeitgeist of what people’s fears are—their paranoia that we’re going to be attacked,” and it “makes people look at what we’re dealing with” in terms of threats to national security. “There are not a lot of measures short of extreme measures that will get it done,” he said, adding, “America wants the war on terror fought by Jack Bauer. He’s a patriot.”

There are websites dedicated to archiving the "kills" in the show, '24.'
Even the weapon used is carefully noted. War as sport and vise-versa.

U.S. Military Not Happy About "24", although there are probably factions within the Bush-infected military that are quite happy about it.

Baer/Bauer: I didn't notice that, but now that you mention it, that certainly is quite "coincidental."

How about Agent Mulder from 'The X Files?'
Try searching up 'Muldergate.'

Fox TV is a special petrie dish of psy-ops to examine.
Any venue that gets the eyeballs of youth will be laced with psy-ops.
Check out the UPN channel which is a merging of two other youth-oriented channels.

Disney is a primer template the same way Dealey plaza is.

Any actor or director who gets guaranteed eyeballs will be somehow be producing psy-ops.
Because one doesn't lead a horse to water. You spike what he's already drinking.
And as long as it makes lots of money the task will have a culture of enablers, witting or not.

But '24' is special. It's right out of Navy Commander Narut's desensitization program resembling 'A Clockwork Orange.' Remember when 'Willie Wonka' was recently remade and the video's cover was an imitation of the poster for 'A Clockwork Orange?'

Even iPod billboards are using violence. You know those silhouette's of kids dancing to their ipods with random lines as background? Two of them are of graphic violence:
>A male hurtling chest forward and knees bent as though hit in the back with gunfire.
>A female with arms up horizontally and head hanging down as though chained to a wall unconscious or even crucified.

A billboard for a video game (I forget which one) shows just a chess piece with the head snapped off lying in a pool of blood. Even the 'neck' of the chess piece is bloody.

Harsh violent images as viral marketing. Media is war by other means.

BTW there was an episode of Nowhere Man that seems heavily influenced by, and borrowed liberally from, Three Days of the Condor.

Wasn't it Surnow's viagra that Rush Limbaugh got busted with coming back into the united states?

Yes, yes he was. Another theme throughout Nowhere Man dealt with this fetish that the leaders of the bad guys had for using No. 2 Pencils to poke a hole in the end of their Cigars.

That connection, Hougan's Secret Agenda to Thomas Veil's Hidden Agenda, occurred to me as well. KWH anyone?

Nowhere Man: How 9/11 could have been used to Control the Ma

Postby MinM » Mon Sep 19, 2011 4:00 pm

Image
A Special Ops guy in silhouette has some interesting revelations in the Nowhere Man DVD.

1) He claims that if he had to do it over, he would not have let himself be used as a tool of the MIC, or Big Government as he puts it. Perhaps he had a Pat Tillman-like epiphany? I tend to doubt it since he's involved with the likes of Surnow.

2) Since 1967 "Big Government" has been using TV as a form of Visual Hypnosis. There was also an episode that explored this phenomenon.

3) "Big Government" could have staged a 9/11 False-Flag in order to further extract concessions from Americans, and expand government authority. Although he is careful to couch this with the admonition that he is 150% sure that OBL did it...

So if you happen to get Nowhere Man through Netflix, before Netflix goes under, check out Special Features on Disk 9. Then click on Fact or Fiction?:

Thanks, MinM. I will do exactly that.

Identity is extremely fragile. In another thread, the topic of creating false (and potentially felonious?) Facebook identities came up, but in truth our own so-called "real identities" are already frighteningly manipulable and astonishingly malleable! — and THAT is food for consideration people ought to think much more about.

It is so ludicrous to me that people CANNOT see they are all in it together.

They are all the bootlickers of the multi-nationals. I don't care if they label themselves liberal or conservative.

The neo-cons took over. Are they going to win? Who knows. But the idea that there is a difference between Obama, Clinton, either Bush, or Reagan.....it would be laughable if it wasn't so horrific.

But I suppose I'm beating a dead horse on this particular subject, on this particular forum.
