hmm.. a friendly Cal connection, meaning he's not full of righteous wrath, so he was likely inconvenient in some way to WAR Inc., which is getting impatient waiting for its next ME bonanza. Soft power has its charms but where's profit in it? If bombs aren't a-falling the triple digit returns on investment aren't a-rolling in, and the next thing you know there'll be climate change legislation. So Bibi isn't the only one with a hand in this though he's an obvious beneficiary.

Klein on the other hand is probably a very casual participant and his idiotic vid doubtless remains unknown to 99.99% of Muslims including the ones hired to protest in Egypt. In Libya I noticed they didn't even bother -- no crowds nowhere, fake or otherwise. I have yet to see a night photo with more than three clean cut special-forces types running around but then it's still early.

Anyway simultaneous attacks + "al Qaeda" (tidy photos of AQ planting its flag in Libya) + brutalization of the corpse = the usual suspects and that doesn't include Obama, Ahmadinejad or Hillary, though the local tea party crowd will probably find a way to pin it on them just like they're "sposed" to.

Retraction noted. But help a brother out: even though you've distanced yourself from your earlier comments about Mr. Gorilla, care to explain why they made sense to you in the first place? His lost legacy on this front is lost, buried under 13 years of historical debris that makes Camp David seem like it happened in another millenium (heh). The "Roadmap" was a Bush administration undertaking. So I don't follow.

It's kind of a long story. But I guess the short version would be: I think he has an ongoing interest in the region for real but kinda abstruse reasons unrelated to instant events. And I also think he's that kind of power-crazy. Personally competing to rule large parts of the world as its chief executive. That type of thing.

Wild speculation, basically. Very wild. Of a kind that really can't be much more than very loosely right, at best, ever. It more or less amounts to saying: I suspect he's up to unknown tricks for profit with some billionaires in all the usual places.

Libya Makes Arrests After Benghazi Attack

BENGHAZI—Four people have been arrested in connection with the attack against the American consulate here that resulted in the death of the U.S. ambassador to Libya and three other Americans, a Libyan official involved with the manhunt for the militants said.

Libyan security sources have a larger group of people under surveillance, the official said,

The Libyans have organized a multiagency task force, combining all available resources to hunt down the suspected Islamic militants, including intelligence, defense and interior officials, said the official. He declined to say how many suspects that the Libyans were watching, citing sensitivities of the continuing investigation.

"There is a group now that is under our custody, but there is a group we're following to know who's connected to them, and they are monitoring their phone calls," the official said.

There is no discernible ramp up of security across the streets of Benghazi in the aftermath of the attacks on the Americans that elevated tensions across the Middle East and raised concerns about how well the U.S. can protect its diplomats around the world.

There are no security checkpoints at major intersections or in front of the burned-out consulate complex. At the downtown hotel where many foreign institutions house their staff, a Libyan army tank stood outside the front door.
