The Panama Deception is a 1992 documentary film that won the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature.[1] The film is critical of the actions of the US military during the 1989 invasion of Panama by the United States, covering the conflicting reasons for the invasion and the depicting of the US media as biased. It was directed by Barbara Trent of the Empowerment Project and was narrated by actress Elizabeth Montgomery.

The film asserts that the U.S. government invaded Panama primarily to renegotiate the Torrijos–Carter Treaties. Another allegation made by the film is that the United States tested some form of laser or energy weapon during the invasion. The film also includes footage of mass graves uncovered after the US troops had withdrawn, carpet-bombed civilian neighborhoods, as well as the depiction of some of the 20,000 refugees who fled the invasion.

Hoping to watch it in a day or so.

Just watched it on youtube. GREAT, important & vital info most Americans STILL don't know. This was an enormous warcrime in which thousands of brutal atrocities were routinely committed -- the prelude & warm-up to US criminal actions in destroying Yugoslavia, invading Haiti, Iraq, Afghanistan, bombing Pakistan and Libya ....

Its one reason I don't 'honor' or otherwise acknowledge or celebrate Memorial Day, as the great evil which has been perpetrated by the Pentagon, MIC and the Corporate Plutocracy aka Government of USA Inc. has not been officially recognized or atoned for -- besmirching the memory of those generations of soldiers who once DID fight with honor for a noble cause in creating this nation based on principles of liberty, rule of law, democracy and human rights. Principles now notable for their absence or vanishing significance within the American body Politic.
Given the inglorious history of US military adventurism and abuse of power during the last 60+ years, how could they not be of declining relevance?

To paraphrase a comment made by author/professor Jose de Jesus Martinez, "How could Americans be so STUPID (to believe the US only wanted to eliminate the Drug-Baron Noriega)?????"

The short 'answer'?
Practice, practice, practice.

Highly recommended for the info and insights profferred re: America's Empire ambitions and tactical/strategic agenda via invasion & occupation as per Panama.

The bit where Bush Sr. addresses Congress and declares Panama 'free' and a 'democracy' as members of Congress cheer and give him (and themselves!) a standing ovation MUST surely rank among the several dozen more despicable, least honorable moments in America's modern history.

i feel like a big part of the brainwashing this system subjects us to is the shortening of our memories.

the panama invasion wasn't that long before gwb's "shock and awe" but most people seem to have completely forgotten about it, and have also forgotten how the m.o. was so similar.

incredible too is the way people have totally forgotten about the anthrax attacks and almost nobody seems to want to connect the indisputable fact that the anthrax came from our own government with the 911 in general. such a huge disconnect. so much of the true post 911 terror in this country was the anthrax attacks, where anyone was potentially a victim.

i get the blankest looks from people when i mention panama to people, like its been wiped clean from most people's minds. i mean the whole "obl porn stash" was right out of the "noriega satanic stuff in his office" playbook.

i think most people are literally hypnotized, and i'd like to find out how it's done.

Yeah, W's Shock and Awe, but before that Grenada (because Cuba was helping to improve the airport), and then of course Yugoslavia -- where the perfected-lessons of PR psyops were used to immense effect, placing the essential 'We HAD to do it!' spin on US/UN actions, using equal parts manufactured righteous rage, Bullshit 'causes', and the ever-popular Pride and Duty of American Troops.

THE MYSTERIOUS RAMSEY CLARK:

STALINIST DUPE OR RULING-CLASS SPOOK?

By Manny Goldstein

Image

Take a close look and there is something downright suspicious about former Attorney General Ramsey Clark, now the darling of certain sectors of the radical left. His journey has taken him from the heights of federal power to outer orbits of the political fringe. In the process, he has seemingly transformed from a shill for the most corrupt elements of the US elites to a shill for any foreign despot who claims to oppose the US elites. Who is Ramsey Clark really working for?

Dynasty of Mediocrity

Ramsey Clark was born to power. In 1945, the Clark family made its leap from Dallas to DC when Ramsey's dad Tom Clark, a lobbyist for Texas oil interests, was appointed Attorney General by President Harry Truman. In his Texas days, the politically ambitious elder Clark was cultivated as a useful connection by New Orleans mafia kingpin Carlos Marcello, and many feared Clark's new job would afford organized crime access to higher levels of power.

AG Clark was repeatedly mired in corruption scandals. In 1945, he was accused of taking a bribe to fix a war profiteering case. In 1947, after he had four convicted Chicago mob bosses sprung from prison before their terms were complete, Congress appointed a committee to investigate--and was effectively roadblocked by Tom's refusal to hand over parole records.

Truman admitted to a biographer that "Tom Clark was my biggest mistake." But he insisted: "It isn't so much that he's a bad man. It's just that he's such a dumb son of a bitch."

AG Tom Clark played along with the post-war anti-communist hysteria, approving federal wiretaps on Alger Hiss, the State Department official accused being a Soviet mole. In 1949, he moved over to the Supreme Court. Carlos Marcello biographer John Davis asserts that the kingpin continued to funnel money to Clark when he sat on the high court...

The inclusion of Ramsey Clark in "Panama Deception" would be somewhat analagous to having Harry Connick Jr. commemorate Jim Garrison.
John Simkin wrote:In 1967, President Johnson nominated him to be Attorney General of the United States, he was confirmed by congress and took the oath of office on 2nd March. Later that day District Attorney Jim Garrison announced the arrest of businessman Clay Shaw on charges of conspiring to assassinate President Kennedy. The new Attorney General stated that the FBI had already investigated and cleared Shaw "in November and December of 1963" of "any part in the assassination". Within a few days of this statement Clark had to admit that he had published inaccurate information and that no investigation of Shaw had taken place.

In an interview on Face the Nation on 12th March, 1967, CBS correspondent, George Herman, asked Clark about the death of David Ferrie. Herman asked Clark why documents concerning Ferrie had been classified by the FBI and the Justice Department. Clark replied: "No, those documents are under the general jurisdiction of the General Services Administration." According to Bernard Fensterwald, this was untrue as the Ferrie documents had specifically been classified under orders from FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover.

In 1968 Attorney General Ramsey Clark appointed a panel of four medical experts to examine various photographs, X-ray films, documents, and other evidence pertaining to the death of President Kennedy. The Clark Panel argued that Kennedy was struck by two bullets fired from above and behind him, one of which traversed the base of the neck on the right side without striking bone and the other of which entered the skull from behind and destroyed its upper right side.

Ramsey Clark was also the subject of criticism a year later when he announced that there was "no sign of conspiracy" in the assassination of Martin Luther King, several weeks before James Earl Ray, the alleged assassin, had been arrested. Ramsey Clark later admitted he suspended Cartha DeLoach from his position as FBI liaison, as a result of his behaviour over the arrest of James Earl Ray.

On 25th January, 1969, Ramsey Clark's final day as Attorney General, he ordered the Justice Department to withhold from Jim Garrison, the X-Rays and photographs from the autopsy of John F. Kennedy.

Otherwise it is a very good documentary.

Nordic is right...Panama 1989 is wayyyy down the memory hole.

Obama and everyone praises GWB, "the smart level headed guy with the idiot war loving son". Those who know their research on Poppy Magog knows he may very well be the epitome of pure evil.

Christmas time in Panama...but instead of toys or lump of coals, they get experimental Stealth plane microwave rays reducing people to mere clumps of gelatanous jelly. America, F--- YEAH!

But hey, what's 3500 dead Panamanians and square milage of downtown Panama City destroyed...we got that voodoo practicing pock marked drug kingpin!(of course, no mention he was running drugs FOR the CIA)

You know, I can't help think it's really quite simple:

Keep 'em busy, keep 'em poor, keep 'em distracted. Keep up the narrative of all invasive, super competent security state aparatus, then the monkey mass will, effectively, police themselves and they won't have the nerve or the stamina to ask "Why the fuck do we let them do this to us?" or the energy to remember the last time they fucked us...

Ho hum.
And while we spoke of many things, fools and kings
This he said to me
"The greatest thing
You'll ever learn
Is just to love
And be loved
In return"

Thanks for calling my attention to this elfie. I've only seen it once, back in the day, when a friend of mine recorded it to VHS right off Cinemax (?). Needless to say I was horrified, and I think seeing that film was what first made my husband take my anti-government rantings seriously.

I'll confess that the first time I saw "The Panama Deception", the only reason I rented it was because Elizabeth Montgomery was the Narrator. Someone at Pleasant Street Video had made an endcap display of all of the video tapes they had featuring Ms. Montgomery, and I think she is awesome, so I rented it.

She’s got a new one out now, I don’t even know what it’s about

But I’ll see her in anything, so I’ll stand in line….

I was quite affected by Elizabeth Montgomery's portrayal of Lizzie Borden in a made-for-tv movie from many years ago. Yeah, she was terribly miscast but she gave it her all, that's for sure.
